Upsets, Blowouts, and a Community Crystal Ball on the Blink
From footy blowouts to baseball run-riots, this was a week where the crowd nailed some calls and got properly bamboozled by others. Here's how the Called It community fared across the board.
Australian AFL
Geelong's thumping of Carlton had the majority nodding along correctly, but Sydney's 141-88 demolition of Brisbane completely blindsided the crowd, who'd called against them. Fremantle's shock loss to Hawthorn and Adelaide's home win over the Bulldogs also went against the majority — a rough week for the footy faithful.
English League Championship
Wrexham's 3-0 statement win at Millwall had the community reading the tea leaves correctly, but Portsmouth's shock 0-2 stumble at home to Derby left plenty of hopeful callers red-faced. A busy round with a real mixed bag of hits and misses across the division.
MLB
The Cubs' 17-3 obliteration of Milwaukee and the Twins' 15-2 rout of Detroit both slipped past the majority, who called the wrong way on both. Cleveland's 0-11 no-show against Toronto also caught the crowd out — big scorelines, bigger surprises.
English Premier League
Ipswich's brave call to topple Liverpool backfired spectacularly with a 0-2 loss, while Everton's draw with Manchester United left backers of an Everton win short. On the flip side, Villa's win at home and Arsenal's edge over Chelsea kept the majority on the right side of things.
English Rugby League Super League
Leigh Leopards absolutely ran riot with a 48-10 hammering of St Helens, and the community called it spot on. Bradford's home win over Castleford, though, snuck past the majority who'd backed the wrong side.
Australian National Rugby League
South Sydney's 50-20 romp over the Roosters caught the majority completely off guard, while the Warriors' nail-biting one-point win over Manly went the way the crowd predicted. A week of big scores and bigger surprises in the NRL.
