Big Bats, Bigger Blowouts, and a Whole Lot of Second-Guessing
From diamond demolitions to gridiron track meets, this week had the community nailing a few calls and getting thoroughly humbled by others. Here's how the room's calls stacked up against what actually went down.
MLB
The room backed Oakland to shock Seattle, then watched the Mariners run them out of the yard 19-1 — brutal. Milwaukee's 20-0 flattening of Cincinnati also caught the majority off guard after they called against the Brewers, and Tampa Bay's 14-4 romp over Houston left the doubters red-faced too. A wild week for diamond callers all around.
NFL
Chicago's 59-37 shootout win over Carolina went exactly as the majority called it, and Baltimore's rout of Indianapolis followed suit. But the Giants sneaking past Dallas on Monday night left most of the room stunned — the majority had Dallas covering that one.
English Premier League
Man City's edge over United went with the crowd's call, but goalless stalemates at Anfield and White Hart Lane left plenty of yes-callers with nothing to show for it. Sunderland fans also got a reality check as Arsenal cruised 2-0 despite the majority fancying an upset.
English League Championship
Middlesbrough's 4-3 thriller over Norwich matched the majority's call, but West Ham's 6-0 demolition of Wrexham blindsided the room, who'd sided against the Hammers. Norwich's later win over Birmingham also flipped the script on the doubters.
Australian AFL
Both Fremantle's statement win over Geelong and Brisbane's 53-point mauling of Adelaide had the community split right down the middle 21-21 — no clear consensus, but plenty of bragging rights on the line either way.
English Rugby League Super League
Wigan's 50-12 stroll past Catalans made a mockery of the majority who called against them, and York City Knights' 35-16 statement win over Bradford did the same to their doubters. A rough week for the no-callers up north.
Australian National Rugby League
Newcastle's 20-10 win over South Sydney went exactly as the majority predicted, while the Warriors-Dolphins clash split opinion but ultimately went the Dolphins' way, leaving plenty of Warriors backers disappointed.
